January 2017
/January: “BROWN BAG HUSTLE” hosted by Ways and Means
January 17th, 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm (Note: Early Start!)
Our January 17th meeting is the Ways & Means Committee Fundraiser. We hope you have had time to clean out your stash as you received all those gifts over the holidays that need a place on your shelf. We'll gladly take your leftovers for the Brown Bag Hustle. Remember, your trash could become someone else's treasure.
Do you have something you just can't stand to look at let alone finish? We have the answer. We're including a silent auction this year which will be unfinished quilt tops, unfinished table runners, unfinished small quilts or anything else in the process of being finished. Donate it to the "Hustle"!
Please bring your donation to the meeting on January 17th at 6:30.
Bring your checkbook or cash (you JUST might find something you can't do without.)
Purchase exceptionally well priced tickets to drop into the brown bag of choice… 6 tickets for $5, 15 for $10, 20 for $15, and the BEST BARGAIN of all: 30 tickets for only $20.
Your donations have no limits! We take fabric, stuffing, scissors, irons, lamps, furniture, stuffing, fat quarters, yarn, et cetera. If you have any questions please email me, Donna Fitzgerald. My email is in the Members Directory.
Join us at the party on January 17th!
Thanks, Donna Fitzgerald

President’s Letter
Another year is ended. While there were highs and lows this past year, we can look forward to a new year and that also means our quilt show. I find this time of the year to be very productive, and am busy finishing some of my UFOs and birthday blocks. I have also been gathering items for our Brown Bag auction this month.
Our Holiday Party was tremendous fun. Thank you to Linda Spring for our delicious food, Carol Swartz and Linda Spring for decorations, and all those members who helped with setup and clean up. Deb Sherrock and Cheryl Mercy brought the Quilt of Valor we made at the October meeting. It has been quilted and is gorgeous.
Our next board meeting will be on Tuesday, January 24, at 7:00 pm at my home. Members are welcome to attend. Please let me know prior to the meeting if you would like to attend.
Happy New Year!
Barbara

News from the Service Committee
Isn’t this photo of the quilt lovely? It’s the Quilt of Valor made by members of the guild at the October 2016 meeting… and shown finished at the December meeting. The quilting was done by guild member Dawn Larsen.
If you haven’t signed up to indicate that you plan to complete a Quilt of Valor (QOV), please so do at the next meeting or contact Deb Sherrock of your intent. We need to have a realistic idea of how many quilts we will have ready to present at the quilt show in October. We’d like to invite 20 Veterans to receive their quilt at the show, but hope to have many more quilts to give to the Illinois QOV coordinator for future use.
Do you know of a veteran (family member or close friend) who you can nominate to receive a QOV at our October 2017 quilt show? The nominated veteran should have been "touched by war"... meaning during their military service they should have been in harm’s way. Your nominee does not have to be currently in active service. However, the veteran must attend the Quilt Show. More information will be on the nomination form (available at the January meeting and on the guild website) but includes contact information (name, address, phone number, email) for both the veteran and the nominator as well as branch of service and any deployments for the Veteran. Please contact Deb Sherrock if you have any questions regarding the eligibility of a prospective recipient.

Quilt Show Committee Meeting in January
The next meeting of the Quilt Show subcommittee chairs will be January 10th at 7:00 pm at the Fremont Public Library on Midlothian in Mundelein. There was no meeting in December, so chairs, you won’t want to miss this one!
Remember, we will be meeting the second Tuesday of each month through September. Make sure your calendar is marked. See you there!
Looking Ahead to February...
February's meeting will be a new concept, "Best of the Best". Each member is invited to show one quilt, her favorite, her best work or her most treasured. And briefly tell why this quilt holds a special place in her heart. We will need volunteers to hold up quilts, so please speak to Yolanda or Mary to volunteer. Start thinking now about which quilt you will bring and why. We can't wait to see your gorgeous quilts and hear their stories!
Birthday Blocks
There are no new birthday blocks due in January.
If you have fallen behind (it does happen to the best of us, especially around the holidays), this is your chance to catch up! The best way to insure that the birthday ladies receive any late block is to mail the block to them so they can get started putting their quilt together. Addresses are available from the roster in the Members Only section of the Village Quilters website.
Thank you for participating. We hope you enjoy making these blocks for others. We’re sure you’ll enjoy receiving them when your birthday rolls around! So many lovely fabrics to work with....
Membership News
There were no new members in December but "old" members enjoyed good food and good conversation with fellow quilters. Wishing you all lots of time for quilt projects in the New Year!
