In Cheryl Sleboda's presentation, Working Weekly – “Staying Inspired” - How small quilts helped me find my artistic voice, she will share with us her year long journey of finding her artistic voice from comic books to fiber artist. She will show us how working weekly and working small can help us define our artistic visions and make us better quilters.
Less CAN be more! Create “eye-popping” land and seascapes by cutting strips of fused fabric, laying them onto a foundation then stitching back and forth with beautiful color threads. Small projects; more than one may be made during the workshop day.
Join us as we experience a journey from the beginning of Denise’s quilting career up to the present through her fascinating lecture and trunk show, Humble Beginnings.
The Guild will prepare for the October Quilt Show, Quilts from the Village XV. Details to come.
Create a one of a kind project with design assistance. We will cover design options, planning, assembly tips, techniques, and finishing options. Make hand stitched hexagons florets to use in a quilt or sewing accessory.
Join us for Dawn Cook Ronningen's lecture and trunk show, Hexagons & Mosaics 1840-2016 and learn about hexagons and mosaic patchwork quilts over the last 175 years.
Learn Lenore Crawford's fusing technique while beginning a beautiful fused art quilt using one of her patterns. Lenore will demonstrate how she uses fabric paint to increase the realism. No sewing is done in this workshop.
Lenore Crawford presents a lecture, Award Winning Techniques to Create an Art Quilt. Learn about the evolution of her work and the process she uses to create award winning quilts from photos.
Linda Halpin will be teaching her easy and accurate method for curved piecing and refine our fabric selection skills as well in this full day workshop, Spot On Scrap Quilt. Come and enjoy learning with fellow quilters.
Join us as we celebrate the 150th year of Laura Ingalls Wilder's birth with a trunk and slide show about quilting in the time of Little House on the Prairie, giving us an insight into quilts as Laura would have seen them.
This workshop is now full.
Learn to use the camera in your smartphone or tablet to take and edit better pictures of your quilts. Participants will use their own phones or tablets, and will use software (downloaded before class) to edit the pictures to improve their quality.
Join us as retired educator and professional photographer Jerry Hug presents tips and tricks for obtaining high quality photos of our quilts.
The program will inform us about lighting, how to edit our photos, how to share our photos on the internet and how to make good prints for our records. He will demonstrate picture taking techniques of quilts so that our quilts look as good in photos as they look in our homes.
The Boutique Committee for the Quilt Show is hosting this Sew-In! We are looking for sewers to help construct small items to sell at the Boutique. If you would like to attend, please email or call Mary Dietz.
Join us Tuesday, April 18th at 6:30 pm for a wonderful, very busy annual meeting including social, business, and service aspects. And, of course, FUN! Note the early start time! Also, due to the anticipated length of this meeting, there will be NO Show and Tell.
Join us for general quilt show prep. You can use this time to work on any project related to the quilt show.
There is no fee for this workshop.
Members are needed to demonstrate a technique or a project. Do you have a successful way to bind, are you good at applique, do you know how to make a quick and easy bag? Please volunteer to share your expertise with our guild. Contact Mary Dietz or Yolande Sherrod
Have you started making your Quilt of Valor? If not, do you need a little encouragement and support to get started? Or better yet... to get it finished? Join other like-minded sewers at the Quilts of Valor “sew-in” on Wednesday, February 22 at Faith Lutheran Church, 680 W. Deerpath Road in Lake Forest (the usual location for workshops).
So bring fabric, your sewing machine, and supplies to work on your quilt… to have it ready for the show in October. It will be fun to see everyone’s quilts! If you have any questions about the "sew-in", contact Deb or Cheryl... and we hope to see you on Wednesday, February 22nd.
IMPORTANT: Please RSVP to Deb Sherrock by Tuesday, February 14 if you plan to come to the QOV “sew-in” on February 22. If we need more space at the church due to an overwhelming response, we need to let them know a week in advance.
There is no fee for this workshop.
Each member is invited to show one quilt, her favorite, her best work or her most treasured. And briefly tell why this quilt holds a special place in her heart. We will need volunteers to hold up quilts, so please speak to Yolanda or Mary to volunteer.
Join us for the annual Ways and Means fundraising program. Check back here at a later date for program details, to be provided by the Ways and Means committee.
