/November Program: Reframe Your Color Story with Amy Struckmeyer
Tuesday, November 19, 2024: 7 p.m. - In Person
Join Amy Struckmeyer, QuiltCon 2024 speaker, as she shares how to build color palettes for your quilts that create a specific mood, are dynamic, and that tell a story… YOUR story.
In her lecture Amy will give you tools and ideas to gain confidence in creating your own color combinations. She will share how she experiments with temperature, hue, and value to select palettes specific to each of her projects and will help you build upon your own distinctive awareness of color. She will end with a trunk show of her quilts, examples of her continuing experimentation with design and color.
November Workshop: Make. Quilt. Tote.
Saturday, November 16, 2024: 9 am – 12:30 p.m.
Location: Faith Lutheran Church, 680 Deerpath, Lake Forest
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, this workshop will be Saturday, November 16th before our monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 19th.
Take your quilt to the next level of utilitarian awesomeness by creating a practical and beautiful bag! You’ll come to class with two mini quilt tops ready to turn into a one-of-a-kind quilted tote! You’ll learn how to add straight quilting lines to create a durable tote bag shell; how to box corners; how to make and add both a slip pocket and a lining with a zipper pocket; and how to construct a basic lined tote including tips for securely attaching straps/handles.
Don’t already have two mini quilt tops or an idea for a patchwork panel design that would make a great tote? No worries! If you wish, Amy will provide the pattern for her Geometric Tote panel (pictured here) for you to make in advance.
Check out the Registration page for more information and to sign up for the workshop.

December Holiday Party!
Tuesday, December 17 – 6:30 p.m.
Plans are underway for our annual holiday party! This year we will be bringing back the dessert, coffee, tea, and cocoa bar - keeping it simple with plenty of time to visit. This is your chance to shine by bringing your best dessert to share! Everyone is welcome to bring what they do best. Last time we had some delicious options and I know I left with a serious sugar high! The guild will provide coffee (regular and decaf), a variety of tea bags, and hot cocoa with lots of add-ins.
We’re asking that you once again bring some non-perishable food items and/or feminine hygiene products which will be donated to the COOL Food Pantry in Waukegan. They were so grateful last year to receive our donations. Thanks to all of you for doing what you can to help others during the holiday season.
There will be an optional gift exchange. If you want to participate, please bring one yard of fabric. (Please, out of respect for members of all faith backgrounds, no “Christmas” themed fabrics). To keep things simple, just roll up your fabric and tie it with a ribbon - no need for fancy wrapping or gift bags. That way everyone can see what’s available and hopefully leave with something they can use! More details on this activity to come!
The evening will feature a Show and Tell time. In addition to your regularly planned show and tell item, please bring your favorite Holiday or Winter quilt to show! Be prepared to tell us why it’s your favorite.
I need a few people who are willing to help with decorations and set up, as well as clean up. I will manage the beverage bar. Everyone is welcome to bring a dessert.
So please mark your calendar, get out your recipe box, prepare your special holiday dessert, and get ready to celebrate with your fellow quilters. Hope to see you there!
Text or email me with any questions and to volunteer!

October Workshop - Free Motion Mastery in a Month: Quantum Leap
Message from the President
At our September meeting Sew N Save came to do a lecture and demo on some simple pouch making patterns. I have had fun making the Zippy and Clam Up pouch. I am ready with some holiday gifts for the grandkids. Working with the jelly vinyl was easy and the Zippy pouch can be made in about 10 minutes. So fun!
We have adopted a Social Media policy that is now in effect. This policy will be posted on our website for you to read in its entirety. Currently Village Quilters has two Facebook pages. One is private and many of our members post on that page. There will be no changes made to our private Facebook page. We also have a public page that has been used in the past to help promote our Quilt Show. Our goal is to make the public page more active, and Carrol Stovold has agreed to be our Social Media Chair.
We will be posting information about what the Village Quilters guild is doing as far as charity quilts, workshops and speakers. The goal of the public Facebook page is to promote Village Quilters Guild, not to promote any one quilter. Pictures will be posted on the public page that could include your picture with your quilt or in a group at an event. The policy outlines the guidelines for the Social Media chair. The policy also states that if anyone does not want their picture included in any posting they need to let the President know.
Please go to our website and read the policy in full. If anyone has any questions about our social media policy, please feel free to contact me.

Quilts from the Village XIX – October 24 & 25, 2025
Exciting news! We have a date and a location for the quilt show! The show will be held in the Physical Education Building on the Grayslake campus of the College of Lake County (CLC). The dates for the show are October 24 and 25, 2025. Mark your calendars now!
Please offer a sincere round of thanks to all those who have already volunteered to take on a leadership role in the planning and execution of the show. As you learned at the September meeting, the Raffle Quilt Committee is already at work on designing and constructing the quilt!
You will see that there are still several positions still available. If you have an interest in volunteering for any of these jobs please contact me. I am happy to explain what each job entails and what our meeting schedule will be in the lead-up to the show. I expect to begin meeting in January and would like a full roster by then.

Income: $275.00
Expenses: $3,905.54
Ending Bank Balance as of September 30, 2024: $38,429.04

Rent for both the August and September workshops at Faith ($90 each) cleared the bank in September. Additional expenses were for rent for the last quarter meetings at Grace ($450) and service project expenses ($346.38). The remaining significant expense ($69.66) was for July and August workshop snacks and dinner with the speaker.
