/Program: Foundation Paper Piecing by Veruschka Zarate
Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at 7:00 PM via Zoom
This month we have Veruschka Zarate from Pride and Joy quilting – check out her website with her AMAZING foundation paper pieced works of art. Veruschka will detail her quilting journey from traditional piecing to the world of foundation paper piece quilting and designing. We hope you enjoy her trunk show of completed foundation paper piece projects as well as details of upcoming projects.
In September, we get ready for the SHOW!
We take a break on workshops over the summer so you should have plenty of time to finish your show quilts and make lots of items for the Boutique and Silent Auction!

Christine’s Chatter
I thoroughly enjoyed Jenni Smith and her lecture on Quilting with Liberty Fabrics. I knew very little about these delicious fabrics until my daughter took a trip to the UK a few years ago. I’m thinking of signing up for a block of the month using their fabrics.
August always feels like a transition month. The kiddos are getting ready to go back to school and we are about to usher in Fall. With the heat wave we’ve been experiencing, cool temps will certainly be welcome. Despite this grip of drought, there are a lot of tomatoes on the vines in my backyard.
I hope you were able to finish up quilts for our show. I wasn’t able to get everything done that I’d hoped but still was able to contribute some of the work finished in the past two years. Now I’m planning things for the Silent Auction and the Boutique. Please continue to sign up to help before and during the show. We will be able to promote the show to our family and friends with the use of bookmarks. Please direct those same family and friends to purchase raffle tickets for the opportunity quilt. It is lovely and will be a treasure for whoever wins it.
We are meeting in person on the fourth Tuesday of the month for in-person sew-ins at the church at 6:30 pm. If you can make it to one of these nights, please remember what the church asks of us:
All attendees are to sign up in the foyer.
Wear a mask while in the building if you are not fully vaccinated.
Refrain from eating or drinking while in the building.
We will meet in person September 21st, 2021 at the Church as it is our Quilt Show prep meeting for our regular meeting. (First time in 18 months!) No sew-in in September.
Looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

Northwest Suburban Quilters Guild Zoom workshops
The Northwest Suburban Quilters Guild in Arlington Heights, IL, would like to invite your guild to two workshops by Carl Hentsch in August. Workshops are via Zoom, so no need to travel.
Friday, August 20 – 9:30-4:30: Crazy Tula Quilt - learn basic foundation skills and how to master curved seams. Carl collaborated with Tula Pink to design projects in his new book, New York Beauties & Flying Geese. He says that curved flying geese are an easy way to create striking effects, even if you have no experience with foundation piecing. The required book also contains a quilt he designed using Kaffe Fassett fabrics. It features 31 architectural block patterns, 10 full size quilts, and 27 pillow projects and each one is stunning.
Saturday, August 21 – 9:30-4:30: Aurora Borealis Tablerunner- develop your foundation and curved seam piecing skills by making this stunning table runner. This is a great introduction for the beginner, and even intermediate quilters will enjoy variations.
Visit the NSQG website to learn more. The cost for each workshop for non-members is $65.
Spaces are still available and we are a guild that welcomes quilters from throughout the U.S. and the world. We would love to have you join us!

Quilt Show News Begins
As we begin our countdown to the Quilt Show, we will start issuing the Quilt Show News (QSN). Most quilt show articles will appear there instead of the regular monthly newsletter, except for any that cannot wait due to timing.
The QSN will be emailed on the following Mondays:
August 16
September 13 – 3 weeks before the show
September 20 – 2 weeks before the show
September 27 – week of the show: final reminders about the show; schedule for that week
Quilt Show Bookmarks
The bookmarks featuring the raffle quilt for our October show are ready!
Every member will receive an envelope with 10 bookmarks. These are for you to give to friends and family. The bookmark, which features a full color picture of part of the show quilt, includes the dates and location of the show, entry fees, and information on how to buy raffle tickets.
Members who live near Kathy Avellone or Sue Ann Kuby will have their bookmarks personally delivered. Otherwise, your bookmarks will be mailed to you.
We have extra bookmarks for those members who need more than 10. If we see you in person just tell us how many more bookmarks you want. If we need to mail them to you, we are asking you to send us a self-addressed, stamped envelope. There will be an insert in your envelope giving the postage necessary to mail additional bookmarks. If you prefer to get your additional bookmarks quickly, you may contact Kathy and pick them up at her house.
Thank you, Margaret Martin, for designing a beautiful bookmark!
