January 2025
/January Program: Cotton & Bourbon: Audrey Esarey “Finding My Voice in Modern Quilting”
Tuesday, January 21, 2025 – 7 p.m. via Zoom
Join in to hear award winning Audrey Esarey share her journey and to see her trunk show of amazing quilts! In 2018, only 6 years ago, Audrey Esarey set a personal goal to exhibit her work in a juried quilt show, which motivated her to design and create a series of original quilts. Since then, her quilts have been exhibited and recognized at Quilt National, International Quilt Festival, and QuiltCon!
Tonight she will share information about her design inspiration, favorite artists, and discuss some highs and lows along her journey. She will take questions from us throughout her lecture as well as at the conclusion. Join in on Zoom to participate in this exciting evening!
January Workshop: “Ultraviolet Radial” - Virtual Workshop with Cotton & Bourbon’s Audrey Esarey
Saturday, January 25, 2025 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. via Zoom
A day just for us with renowned quilter Audrey Esarey! In this Saturday Zoom workshop, you will work on your very own Ultraviolet Radial quilt! You will begin several blocks, and Audrey will help you refresh your techniques, including precision piecing and making some paper pieced arcs!
Ultraviolet Radial is a quilt made using paper piecing and curved piecing techniques that even a confident beginner can complete! Audrey will also discuss color options and quilting ideas.
NOTE: The pattern is not included so you will need to acquire it prior to the workshop; it is available on her website as either a download or a mailed to you version. If you are ordering the mailed to you version, order by January 15, 2025 to allow sufficient time for shipping.
Check out the Registration page (www.villagequilters.org/fees/ultraviolet-radial) for more information and to sign up for the workshop.

February Program: Annette Kennedy – From Photo to Quilt, and Enhancement for Visual Depth and Details
Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – 7 p.m. via Zoom
Since 2003 Annette has been creating pictorial art quilts that incorporate hand dyed, painted, commercial fabrics, and paint and thread, based on photographs she has taken. Her work focuses mainly on nature, including landscapes and flora, but also includes some architectural pieces. Her goal is to express her personal experience with a place or subject in a way that gives beauty, peacefulness and a sense of awe to those who view it.
Annette has won many local and national awards, including the Best Wall Quilt Purchase Award at the American Quilter’s Society’s national show in Paducah, KY in 2009 with her quilt Mountain Chapel. That quilt is now part of the permanent collection of the National Quilt Museum in Paducah. It was also featured on the cover of the Summer 2022 issue of Art Quilting Studio!
February Workshop: Krista Moser Workshop – Fall Foliage
Saturday, February 22, 2025 - 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. via Zoom
Krista Moser is BAAACK! After our delightful Zoom lecture with Krista back in February 2024, we’re bringing her back for a whole day Zoom workshop on a Saturday in February 2025! Krista is the creative force and inspiration behind Krista Moser, The Quilted Life, and we already know just how creative and inspirational she can be! She designed the 60-degree diamond rulers for Creative Grids and has published dozens of patterns using the rulers. She loves symmetry, clean lines and bold colors! Don’t miss it!
We have selected the Fall Foliage pattern for our workshop. You can make either a lap size quilt (57” x 60”) or a table runner.
Be sure to check out the Krista Moser Registration page (villagequilters.org/fees/krista-moser-workshop-2024) to sign up for the workshop and get information on ordering the pattern, fabric kit (not required) and Mini Diamond Ruler (required).

Quilt Show Corner: Announcements for January
There will be a meeting of the entire Quilt Show Committee on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. We are meeting at Fremont Public Library, 1170 N. Midlothian Rd., Mundelein. The room will be open at 6:30 pm, and the meeting will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. I look forward to getting everyone together to begin our journey toward the guild’s next great quilt show!

Quilt Show Corner: Art Quilt Challenge Theme – 3-D Quilts!
The Art Quilt Challenge at our 2025 quilt show will feature 3-D quilts. All quilts must be 9”x12” finished. They must be three layers, quilted and bound. They must have a 3-dimensinal aspect, in addition to the quilting, which rises off of the quilt. We encourage quilters to incorporate nature subjects, embellishments and hand embroidery, but these are not required. For example, you might use trapunto, or small stuffed animals. You might incorporate leaves and twigs or use 3-dimensional pinwheels. Quilts can be traditional or modern.

Message from the President
I hope that 2024 ended on a good note for all of you! One thing nice about quilters is we always have a list on paper or in our minds of what projects we want to tackle. January is the time to organize that list and perhaps organize your sewing space. For me organizing my space helps me to start that next project. For Village Quilters, this is the year of our quilt show so we have lots to think about and get prepared for!
I hope that everyone's new year is filled with lots of great sewing, learning something new and having fun in our sewing spaces.
Sharon Pierluissi
Library Corner
This month the library is featuring a book entitled “Borders; The Basics and Beyond” by Jill Reber. It is spiral bound, so it lies flat when you are using it. It has basic information about creating quilt borders and sample border projects, as well as block size charts so that you can substitute another block of the same dimensions. The illustrations are clear and colorful. Come to the Library Corner at the next in-person meeting and check it out! We also have many other helpful and intriguing books.
