July Workshop: Wool Applique
Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 9:00 am, Faith Lutheran Church, 680 W. Deerpath Rd., Lake Forest
Deanne Eisenman of Snuggles Quilts will teach a workshop on wool applique. Tips and techniques of wool applique on a fabric background will be the workshop’s primary focus. This includes preparing the wood applique pieces and stitch demonstration.
Included in the workshop fee is the pattern for Delightful Seasons. Students will choose one of the seasons to make in class. Deanne has kits for Spring which will be available from her during the workshop for $20. Please let Kathy Sorkin know by July 10th if you would like a kit.
We are waiting to hear back from Deanne about supply list clarifications. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions!

Happy Independence Day! I hope you take some time on the 4th to reflect on the freedoms we have in this country. I am grateful for our democracy and the faithful service of our armed forces.
June’s meeting was wonderful. Nancy Roelfsema regaled us with family stories and her quilting journey. I enjoyed her trunk show and her quilts were all “doable”. Did any of you get a look at her painted fabric up close? She has such an eye for color and glitz. From the pictures on our Facebook page, the workshop attendees also enjoyed their time with her making Bargello quilts.
Thank you members for supporting the visiting opportunity quilts from other guilds. Country Quilters brought three different raffle items to our June meeting. I think a Dear Jane is in my future after being inspired by their quilt! We will have another raffle quilt at our September meeting from Illinois Quilters.
Speaking of raffle quilts, have you been telling your friends and family about our lovely quilt, “Moonlit Poppies”? It is very easy to purchase tickets. Go to our web page and go to the Quilt show page. There is a link to “Buy Raffle Tickets”. It’s easier than ordering from Amazon.
Our quilt has seen many places thanks to our member Pam Eulberg, but she needs your help. Please sign up for a time slot with a friend to take Moonlit Poppies to other guilds and farmers markets.
I have been dabbling in wool appliqué for about 4 years but haven’t taken a class and have mostly relied on you tube and tips from friends. This month, I’m looking forward to actually taking a class with our July speaker Deanne Eisenman.
Board Members, our quarterly board meeting is July 11th at my house. I will send an agenda soon.
As I write this, I am enjoying my first full week of retirement. In the past 4 days, I have spent so much time on my deck enjoying my flowers and the weather. My family is here and we are leaving in about 2 hours for the Michigan Lakeshore in Holland.
Hope you are having a fun and relaxing summer. Hope to see you in July for our meeting.
Enjoy the 4th,
Christine
Quilt Show News!
It’s July! What might you be doing this month to support the guild and the October 20 and 21 Quilt Show? Your quilts are due!
Show and Tell at our June guild meeting was inspirational! We saw a sampling of Red and White Anniversary Quilts and Denim and Lace Art Quilt Challenge quilts, along with many personal quilts. The red and white display promises to be gorgeous!
We want to see everyone’s quilts! At the July meeting Kearstie and Enid told us that only 30% of our membership is responsible for all the entries so far. That makes me very sad and troubled. This show is for ALL of our VQ members. It doesn’t matter if you are an award-winning, experienced quilter or a beginner – our show is designed to celebrate you and your work!
Bookmarks are in! Thank you to Margaret Martin for creating graphics and designing the beautiful bookmarks. Thank you to Jocelyn Galloway for photographing the raffle quilt.
The bookmarks are gorgeous, but they are useless if they are not in circulation. All members will be given bookmarks to share with friends and family. Challenge yourself to give out at least 20 bookmarks. Hand them out in person as you invite people to the show. Pop them in an envelope and send them to friends, etc. If you need more than 20, just ask Erica Jarrett for more.
If you have questions about the show, please don’t hesitate to ask! Also, make friends with the Village Quilters website as there is a wealth of information to be found there. Keep sewing!

To make things easier, we have prepared these instructions to help you upload your photos.
