March 2022

Program: Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr: Rethinking Color

Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 7:00 PM via Zoom

Thank you to all who tuned in to our February meeting and workshop – I am so sorry I missed it.

In March we have an online meeting as well. Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr are back to share a new virtual lecture and curved piecing class. Even though the lecture and workshop are not in person, we are very lucky to have these talented quilters in our area. The lecture will be a pre-recorded lecture followed by a live Q & A session.

The workshop will be delivered in two parts: 1) a prerecorded lecture/demonstration of 45-60 minutes made available to us via YouTube unlisted link and 2) a live via Zoom session of at least two hours. A link to the prerecorded content will be provided seven days prior to the Zoom session. This will give us the opportunity to think about the content and purchase fabric as needed. Weeks or Bill (not sure yet) will be available to help us edit palettes and answer questions in the live class session.

Signups will be available soon.

See you online!

Christine’s Chatter

I always feel like March is an in-between month. Wedged between winter and spring, it holds a promise of sunny days and blooming flowers. Today was a gorgeous sunny day with temps in the mid to high 30’s. I’ve already been bitten by the spring cleaning bug and I’m actively freshening up the house as I gear up to start gardening in April.

We enjoyed a great speaker for our February meeting with New York Beauty settings and techniques. I have seen some of the work that came from the workshop and it’s pretty amazing and beautiful.

Last week, my husband and I ventured up to Sew ’N Save in Racine and we ordered a new sewing table for me. That means my sewing room needs a cleanup too. I am up to my ears in unfinished projects and the chilly days recently have afforded me time to sew and plug into a good audiobook.

At present, I’m sewing my Iron quilter contribution. The pattern has challenged me. Can’t wait to see everyone’s creative projects at our in-person April meeting. Yes, I said in person as we will install the new Board members, approve the 2022-23 budget, and spend some time together. Your 2021-22 board will provide a sweet treat. It will be a great evening together. I am encouraged by the lowered rates of COVID recently and we feel it is safe to meet together in April. If you feel that you need to wear a mask, don’t hesitate to do so, but the state is lifting mask requirements in March.

Looking forward to our virtual meeting on March 15.

Village Quilters Bylaws Changes: Comments and Instructions

To: Members of Village Quilters of Lake Bluff/Lake Forest

From: The Bylaws Committee

The Bylaws committee has recommended four revisions to the current Bylaws. The Board has accepted these recommendations. They were discussed at the membership meeting on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. They must be accepted before the Annual Meeting on April 19, 2022. The proposed version of the Bylaws is now posted on the website, and a set of the four proposed changes is also posted there. A full report of the proposed changes is also posted there.

The four proposed changes are as follows:

  1. Article V, Election, 2): The word “ten” has been deleted from the phrase, “a slate of ten officers” to reflect the fact that the Bylaws now allow more than ten officers because each co-chair is counted as a voting board officer.

  2. Article VII, 1) President: An additional duty has been added which reads, “Signs or designates a Board officer to sign contracts on behalf of VQ.” This addition clarifies and codifies an existing presidential duty.

  3. Article VII 5) Secretary: The Secretary’s term has been changed from a “one” year term to a “two” year term to correspond to existing practice.

  4. Article VII 5) Secretary: The word “general” has been changed to “annual” so that the Secretary’s duty reads: “Records annual and Board meeting minutes”.

Membership approval is required for these revisions to take effect. Please visit the Members Only page of the VQ website to vote “yes” or “no”.
