Learn 10 different ways to construct one of the foundations of quilt construction ~ the half square triangle.
UFO's, Orphan Blocks and what was I thinking??!! Fresh ideas for stale projects.
Many of us have silk treasures from trips abroad, neckties or prom dresses that are too special to cut up so we leave them tucked away in a drawer or box. It’s time to get them out and make something beautiful!
This workshop has three elements: You’ll begin by determining the fiber content of your fabrics by using the burn test. We will then cover two very different ways to work with silk: First, a very free, improvisational piecing technique I call ‘Pieces, Pairs and Panels’ and second, a foundation piecing method that gives stability and ultra-precise results, even with the lightest weight silks.
Working with your stash, you’ll construct elements in these two techniques that can be combined into a small, pillow-sized finished piece.
Let’s explore the world of quilts that were made with what I call ‘Not Cottons’.
When quilters don’t have access to a stash of quilter’s cotton, what do they turn to? This one hour lecture, trunk show and Q & A session shows quilts – antique and modern – made of wool, silk, polyester and more. The trunk show of my own work shows what you can create with neckties, saris, kimonos and other unusual, ‘not cotton’ textiles.
Baravelle spirals have huge "Wow!" factor, yet they are surprisingly easy to design and sew! Using the techniques in RaNae's best-selling book Simply Amazing Spiral Quilts, learn to draw a Baravelle spiral block, then explore lots of ways to color them to create spirals, lightning bolts, pineapples and more. Along the way you'll learn RaNae's "painless paper piecing" techniques. Use your spiral block in a quilt or other project, or a pattern is provided for finishing blocks into potholders.
Each quilt is a journey, and RaNae will share hers as she talks about her quilts and the life lessons, they have taught her. Part trunk show, part quilting lesson and part inspiration, this lecture will leave you wanting to try something new -- whether it's a quilting technique or an adventure.
Drop off starts at 5:00 pm and the meeting begins early at 6:00 pm.
We cheerfully accept any and everything you can donate from your stash that someone else might treasure or even want to buy!
Members are encouraged to bring guests creating a larger audience for our most abundant donation this year. There will be no charge for guests. Contact Donna Fitzgerald for additional information.
Spend a fun day introducing the next generation to the joy of sewing. The kids will create a drawstring bag to carry all their stuff for overnights at friends or grandparents!
Spend a fun morning introducing the next generation to the joy of sewing. The kids will create their own fabric with coloring crayons, and then sew it into a pillow or tooth fairy pillow.
Quilting with rulers is the latest in free motion quilting skills that everyone wants to try, and most think it is too difficult. Our class provides a way to learn a new technique without a large investment of time and money to students
Karen Brown of JUST GET IT DONE QUILTS
As quilters, we are often overwhelmed. We have so much fabric and patterns, but we struggle to complete our projects. So how do you get back to a time of guilt-free joy with your hobby. Well, stick with me and I’ll show you how to do it.
Have you ever wanted to make a Mariner’s Compass block but were too intimidated? Not a fan of paper piecing or using tedious templates? You’ll love this class for learning how to make 16-point compass blocks in 16 different sizes using Robin Ruth Design’s rulers and strip-piecing method!
Robin will share how she is bringing the mariner’s compass block into the 21st century with her modern technique and projects for how you can create your own modern mariner’s compass project.
Inspired by her favorite childhood book, THE HUNDRED DRESSES by Eleanor Estes, Deb Lindahl created 100 quilt squares made of family clothing and fabric scraps and sewed these pieces into the shape of dresses. Each dress represents a story about family history – joys and struggles along the way. These 100 stories were written as essays and assembled into a book as a way to preserve family history in a creative, relatable way.
More than any other topic, students ask us to help them become more confident in their color choices. You’ll learn color theory, not as a dry technical approach, but as it pertains to your quilts.
This quilt incorporates the New York Beauty block into a larger Carpenter’s Square block. There are NO SET-IN SEAMS. Students learn Linda’s ONE PIN technique for creating perfect New York Beauty blocks, and then how to put this quilt together.
Linda Hahn of Frog Hollow Designs is going to get us into that New York (Beauty) State of Mind with her lecture and truck show
